BEWARE! Work in progress
Posted on: Thursday, September 2, by: BaukjeHow we work ...
In recent weeks we have been asked from different angles: "Good that you have such a project / company want to put on, but how do you actually work? Where do you start and what should all be arranged? "A good question which we also often have thought about it and still do every day. A guide you in this country, but step by step plan, and continue to think we come step by step. Just point by point what we are doing:
Research
In the newsletter of July we wrote about how we came to the idea to a company in Ethiopia to set up. The idea originated from Holland Dairy (a dairy in Ethiopia) to packaging for local products in Ethiopia to make. This makes it easier for businesses here to sell their products. Now it is either impossible or very expensive package they have to import, which in turn bad for the economy of the country. Here is how we have proceeded:
- Our research started in the Netherlands with the quest for plastics processing machines. Before we begin, we need to know how the process works. Through our well here in depth we now have a good picture of the possibilities and difficulties.
- Here in Ethiopia we started with a survey. Besides Holland Dairy, there are many other small dairy factories, but also other companies that need packaging. In the first days we went looking for these companies. Visit shops selling dairy products, fish addresses from the yellow pages (which they also yes) and lots of networking. Today we visited the last dairy manufacturers and we have all in all a good picture of the market. We have many (still potential) customers and talked individually they are very enthusiastic! We had previously unaware that this idea would have much positive impact ...
- The competition inquiry has cost a lot less effort. We found out quickly that because no serious plastic manufacturers to 'our' products produce. A unique opportunity so!
The research is very important before we even start with the company. That does not mean only that we are not looking ahead and doing the following steps:
- Finding a local partner; Here we hope you soon have more to tell. We are 'in progress' at least

- A piece of land; We have a very nice piece of land on the eye where we hope it can continue. There is a shell factory where the last 12 years (!) Nothing is done. We hope to find the owner and negotiate with him. Yesterday we went to the mayor been and we gave him our plans for approval. He was very enthusiastic and will immediately investigate whether we can get that piece of land.
- Import duties, because we only import raw materials and products in addition to a large extent will be exported this is very positive for the economy of the country. And that is after all what everyone should eat together from. So we probably do very little to pay import duty on our raw material.
- Overview of the investment, now we are on the spot, we can make a realistic estimate of the cost. We ask quotes for buildings, trucks, a well, electricity costs, personnel etc.
- A point where we are now, but certainly much later in the Netherlands are doing is looking for investors. Without this party we could do nothing. We are looking for different opportunities to invest and start approaching investors. Need ideas for this please let us know!
- Finally, we are in discussions with the bank for foreign currency (the raw materials needed to buy, but here quite difficult), we find the way to government offices and tax offices etc. All in all more than enough things to be doing ... We have one week to the most important things here to find out.
"The land where we are doing (blue). A beautiful place! Early next week we hope to hear more about it. "
Huge Blessings!
During these weeks it's really been God who has led us day by day! He paves the way for us, open doors and close them as needed (though so far not actually occurred). He always brings the right people in our path and provides the perfect timing. It is unbelievable how many steps forward we have come and how many blessings we experience! That is our God!
